## [TUC Congress 2026](https://yoursa.org.uk/tuc-congress-2026/)

We have been attending and taking part in TUC Congress every year since 2018, and this year was no exception.

In 2024 we entered a motion on housing which still forms part of TUC policy (you can read this here), and this year there were two others. They were taken in what is known as a 'group debate' and we spoke in support of Motion 28, supporting the need for an ambitious strategy that builds and upgrades the UK housing stock.

You can see Julia's speech in the link from the picture.

Later that day, and after we co-hosted a fringe meeting which was attended by the MP Nadia Wittome, Julia rose to second Motion 17 Oppose the EHRC Code of Practice (Services, Public Functions and Associations).

We had submitted a motion to the TUC LGBT+ Conference in June. That motion was merged with another from CWU, the Communication Worker's Union and following a ballot at the Conference, was voted as the motion to come forwards to Congress, which is a great honour.

Again, you can see the speech from the image to the left.

On Tuesday we submitted a emergency motion which dealt with the awful situation in Turkiye, where activists, LGBT+ and HIV charites have been subject to a clampdown, with many peopl targeted and arrested.

Working with delegates from NASUWT and NEU, we put forward a motion which was the final motion to be taken in Congress this year - EM07 Defend LGBT+ people and civil society in Turkiye.

If you've time, then take a look at the speech!

Congress is always tiring.

This year, Laura Miller and I walked over 20 miles in the 3 days, from Sunday lunchtime to Wednesday lunch. We went to fringes on bodily autonomy, a viewing of 'Iron Ladies' hosted by GFTU (along with fish and chips on the pier).

We co-hosted a fringe, attended a protest about the treatment of unionised workers at Brighton University, and we met with the Deputy General Secretary of Aegis and chair of the Alliance for Finance to talk about our joining this alliance of financial sector unions.

We're already looking forward to next year!
